Director of Bands

Russell Cote is in his 4th year as Director of Bands at McKamy Middle School and 14th year of teaching. His responsibilities include teaching the beginner brass classes, conducting Honor Winds and assisting with Symphonic Band.
Prior to this position he was on the Flower Mound High School Band Staff for 3 years. His responsibilities at FMHS included directing the Symphonic Band, assisting with Wind Symphony, Concert and Varsity Bands. Mr. Cote worked with the marching band, writing their drill for 2005 and 2006 marching seasons and teaching the beginner trombone class at McKamy middle school.
Prior to his position at Flower Mound, Mr. Cote served as associate director of bands at Mansfield HS in Mansfield, TX from 2000-2004 and associate director at Blalack MS in CFB-ISD from 1997-2000. Mr. Cote’s groups have earned sweepstakes awards as well as runner-up and best in class at several music festivals.
Mr. Cote earned his Bachelor’s of Music degree from the University of Texas at Arlington. While at UTA he served as principal horn in the Wind Ensemble under Ray C. Lichtenwalter and was an active member in the marching band. He earned the 1st ever Jack H. Mahan Director’s award for outstanding musicianship, dedication and service.
Mr. Cote marched with the Sky Ryders Drum and Bugle Corps in 1991 and the DCI World Champions Cadets of Bergen County in 1993 and 1994. He has performed with the Metropolitan Winds, Legends Brass Quintet, and the Texas Wind Symphony. He has been a two-time participant in the UTA conducting symposium with Richard Floyd and Gary Green.
Mr. Cote is an active adjudicator, drill writer and clinician in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. Each summer Mr. Cote serves on the UTA Drum Major Camp staff.
His wife, Marlie, was a band director for 6 years, and currently teaches private flute lessons while staying at home with sons Ian (born 2/2003) and Braden (born 10/2005) and their pet cat Millie. Mr. Cote’s affiliations include: Kappa Kappa Psi, Phi Mu Alpha, TMEA and TBA.

Nikki Cook is excited to begin her first year at McKamy Middle School. Her responsibilities include teaching the beginner woodwind classes, conducting the Symphonic Band and assisting with the Honor Winds.
Prior to teaching at McKamy Middle School, Mrs. Cook taught clarinet lessons in the Lewisville Independent School District and was a member of the Marching Band staff at Flower Mound High School. Mrs. Cook received her Bachelor of Music Degree in Music Education from Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, AZ. While attending NAU she served as the Drum Major of the Lumberjack Marching Band, as well as principal clarinet of the NAU Symphony Orchestra, NAU Wind Symphony and played professionally with the Flagstaff Symphony Orchestra. Mrs. Cook studied clarinet with Michael Sullivan and Jeremy Reynolds, and conducting with Darko Butorac and Daniel Schmidt.
Nikki’s husband, Jay, is pursuing a Doctorate in Trombone Performance from the University of North Texas. They enjoy music, sports, and hanging out with their dog, Rocky.
